The god send is not really in vogue so I suspect it will not be mentioned much, if at all.

Missionary work is also a good way to get full tithe payers - wouldn't it be hilarious if people were counselled to proselyte in more well-off neighborhoods since we seem to believe in a prosperity gospel, so God clearly wants those better off to be the focus of getting saved...

My friend's wife did her mission in the Philippines and they were instructed only to proselytize in the wealthy neighborhoods above the slums, because they would need the wealthier Philipinos converted first, so that they could later help convert the poor. She struggled with this, but rationalized it in her mind and EVEN made it part of her testimony.

This is partly why what Leland is saying on this forum about the church wanting to limit its membership is not unbelievable to me.
It really clicked when I started reading Leland's stuff. Those posts really make the most sense. The income at the rate it's coming in is a huge liability. Must stifle the growth to maintain the lifestyle.

Speakers will be President Russel M. Nelson, Wendy Nelson, and M. Russell Ballard, acting president of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.

The fireside will be Live, and an hour and fifteen minutes long.
The broadcast will be transmitted in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, and American Sign Language.

Their special fireside and intended announcements were that Nevada Senator Catherine Cortez Masto was going to take the Nevada election to solidify Democratic control of the Senate. But the Nevada election machine didn't care about waiting clear until Sunday evening to have that important announcement made, so the brethren got scooped, leaving them little else of significance to say to Nevada saints in Las Vegas.

Or what?

Ok… Fireside/devotional done.
It was all about preparing a people for the temple.

With the recent announcement, temple count in Nevada will double to four.

President Nelson said it’s harder to prepare a people to have a temple, than it is to build one.

It started with a stern announcement that zero recordings of this fireside are allowed, and asked everyone to make sure no one does record it, or shares it on social media. (Kinda heavy handed).

(I wondered if it’s the exact same message given to other new temple districts, they wanted to keep everyone unaware that they economize. Although they did say Nevada a whole bunch).

Had a local choir in LV provide the music. Cut back and forth between broadcast studio in Salt Lake, and the Lindell Chapel here in Las Vegas.

Elder Ballard read the teleprompter, a standard talk about having a pure heart. He did mention he was down here in the late ‘80’s for the open house of the Las Vegas temple.

Wendy started by showing a video clip of her husband at General Conference talking about temples, then spoke about procrastinating four years before she cleaned out her garage. Had 100 boxes of old records and teaching notes, condensed it down to thirty boxes. Took three weeks, and skipped going to the temple during those three weeks.

Said she went back to the temple for three days straight and said the spirit told her she did bad by neglecting to go to the temple each week. Wendy said she knows how to identify when the true spirit is talking to her, and in the temple the spirit said she ignored “weightier matters”.

She came to the conclusion she shouldn’t have skipped the temple during the three weeks she took to clean out the garage.

She testified that the Lord guides the 15 PSRs.

Rusty started by saying Wendy is a blessing to himself and to the entire church.

He thanked whoever for the video montage of church impact and growth over the last hundred plus years. Said Nevada is a proving ground for some of the strongest saints.

He went on about three “ABC’s” of temple preparation.

Ancestors
Be prepared
Children

Under the Be prepared part he went thru the six FSY principles for preparing to go to the temple.

He finished with the appeal to continue gathering Israel here and now, and beyond the veil.

That was it.

The strategy is to rebase the church on temple attendance, which involves tithing. They need people who will rely on the church for evolving/limited-scope gospel teaching. These people need to be economically productive, as well. They are pruning the orchard for the right-shaped trees, in order to maximize the efficiency of the ongoing harvest.

Did it seem like they are already worried about who will staff the temple? Is the church really growing enough in LV to increase temple workload?

Preparing a People for the Temple

1) Assess whether a recording is made or not which could provide evidence contrary to prophetic abilities
2) Berate members indirectly for not attending temple through lackadaisical, fabricated faith promoting story
3) Conclude by being good gospel citizens, driving up selected property values, forget what you think you know about 2 hr presentations attended before, if not for your dead loved ones then think of the children but for the children ... you mentally agree

Didn’t seem that way. The two new temples, Elko announced in April conference and the Lone Mountain temple (2nd one in Las Vegas) announced last month, are still a long ways off.

It’ll take at least two years before the permitting process and construction happen. Then the open house and dedication. It’ll probably be 3 years before they are open and functioning.

My guess is the Elko temple will be the tiny model, like Newport. No cafeteria or laundry.

Attendance at the existing LV temple has been lagging thru the week. Saturdays are busy. Especially now, since they allow walk-ins to attend.

(Up till a couple months ago, a personal reservation had to be made for a specific time slot).

We have a Sun City with 55 plus residency requirements. They are about two miles from the Lone Mountain temple site. They staff most of the current operating personnel slots across the valley right now. Many of them request to be off their shift before sundown, so they can get home before dark.

Maybe that’s a reason…

This is anecdotal, of course, but when I lived in the Denver temple district they used to bring in a lot of temple workers from Colorado Springs and the Ft. Collins area. Then they built the Ft. Collins temple. Soon after, it became very difficult to find enough people to staff the Denver temple since easily 1/3 of the workers came from Ft. Collins. Then they started lobbying for more people from the Colorado Springs area.

I believe what I am suggesting is that there are a finite number of available and worthy temple workers per area. Adding more temples can create resource constraints, especially if the church isn't exactly growing in that area.

Wow I'll tell you something, building 100+ new temples not only cost crazy amounts to build, but also to run. Those buildings are serious buildings with serious equipment inside and out. Small Temples have a dozen or so full-time employees, and so on.

2 Nephi 28:13 They rob the poor because of their fine sanctuaries; they rob the poor because of their fine clothing; and they persecute the meek and the poor in heart, because in their pride they are puffed up.

Good point!
If that is the case, as it increasingly seems, maybe it’s a good thing that less are “worthy” of worldly, freemasonry, leader wor$hip temple-club entrance.

And hopefully more are worthy of the real God’s Spirit & guidance.

I wonder why Nelson is so bullish on temples?

Sure seems like he's drunk on the idea... MOAR teeemples, I'll have anoootherrr plz...

It doesn't seem very prudent to keep upping the ante and to keep committing so many resources.

It seems to me that RMN doesn't believe that there are any lean times coming, let alone the Lord anytime soon
