Digital money is a move close to the Mark. Getting rid of the gold standard is arguably a mistake but is nowhere near as close to it.
It does feel like digital currency would be much easier for governments to use to control the masses. I think for ESG (social credit scores) to work, it would have to be based around some kind of digital currency. I could be wrong though. Hope I am.

If ESG is implemented, there is no way to know from one minute to the next if you have any money or not. They take your money whenever they feel like it. So where is the incentive to earn any? Better to cut off the cops hand that has a chip and use that. Of course, that would be a violent act in self defense and violence is not allowed, so I would not suggest it.
