Recommendation needed for small water filters

Post by gruden2.0 »

I'd like to get a good water filter for my son, something pitcher-sized that offers a really good filter, preferably one that can remove fine particulate like fluoride and similar toxins. I was looking at a ProOne pitcher on Amazon, I delayed and now they are sold out (they were a bit pricey). I was looking at their Scout II filter which is a little smaller (still pricey).

Anyone have any recommendations? I'm not looking at getting him a large filter setup, something like a pitcher. Thanks.

I didn't think there were any any pitcher-sized filters that took care of fluoride. Apparently there are (https://nymag.com/strategist/article/be ... chers.html - though some only remove the majority, like 68%). It's not small, but Berkey makes decent filters that, using the PF-2 filter removes up to like 95% of fluoride.

Yeah, Berkey's remove the most fluoride of all filters on the market, by far. They make smaller versions, even travel size, that might work for you son.

Travel size - https://www.berkeyfilters.com/products/travel-berkey

Water bottle (sold out) - https://www.berkeyfilters.com/products/sport-berkey

However, all their fluoride filters are sold out and have been for months. You can put your name on a waiting list though.

Or you can go to ebay, where they are almost sold out.

Just make sure you don't get a knockoff.
Berkey filters have historically been good filters. I heard they are not as good lately. I hope that's not true!

I bought a set of back up fluoride filters on amazon last week.

You can also buy them here if you buy the black filters too https://www.berkeywaterfilter.com/prod ... -set-of-2/

Yeah, no desire to buy any filters from knock-off places. I'm just glad we stocked up several months ago when they were available at a reasonable price from the only actual Berkey manufacturer - https://www.berkeyfilters.com/

Dropping in to say thanks for your contribution here. Looking up portable water purifiers instead of just water filters. Specifically those that would target virus and it sounds like their black "9-log" filters actually do as much as can be done in semi portable form.

"All Berkey systems contain the Black Berkey Filters and meet the Water purifier standard. In fact, Berkey water purifiers far surpass this standard and actually remove 99.9999999% known as a (9-log reduction), when dealing with pathogenic bacteria."

Curcumin and Turmeric - good stuff.

Thought this would be an appropriate thread to put this article -

The Spice That Prevents Fluoride From Destroying Your Brain

Thursday, July 30th 2020
Written By: Sayer Ji, Founder

Fluoride is found everywhere today, from antibiotics to drinking water, no stick pans to toothpaste, making exposure inevitable. All the more reason why research proving this common spice can prevent fluoride damage is so promising...

Fluoride's neurotoxicity has been the subject of academic debate for decades, and now a matter of increasingly impassioned controversy among the general public, as well. From 'conspiracy theories' about it being first used in drinking water in Russian and Nazi concentration camps to chemically lobotomize captives, to its now well-known IQ lowering properties, to its ability to enhance the calcification of the pineal gland -- the traditional 'seat of the soul' -- many around the world, and increasingly in the heavily fluoridated regions of the United States, are starting to organize at the local and statewide level to oust this ubiquitous toxicant from municipal drinking water.

A compelling study published in the Pharmacognosy Magazine titled, "Curcumin attenuates neurotoxicity induced by fluoride: An in vivo evidence," adds experimental support to the suspicion that fluoride is indeed a brain-damaging substance, also revealing that a natural spice-derived protective agent against the various health effects associated with this compound is available.

The study was authored by researchers from the Department of Zoology, University College of Science, M.L. Sukhadia University, Udaipur, India, who have spent the past decade investigating the mechanisms through which fluoride induces severe neurodegenerative changes in the mammalian brain, particularly in cells of the hippocampus and cerebral cortex. [ii]

The study opens by describing the historical backdrop for concern about fluoride's significant and wide ranging toxicity:

"Fluoride (F) is probably the first inorganic ion which drew attention of the scientific world for its toxic effects and now the F toxicity through drinking water is well-recognized as a global problem. Health effect reports on F exposure also include various cancers, adverse reproductive activities, cardiovascular, and neurological diseases.[1,2]"

~~~
This is far from the first study to demonstrate curcumin's remarkable brain-saving properties. From the perspective of the primary research alone, there are over two hundred peer-reviewed published studies indicating that curcumin is a neuroprotective agent. On our own turmeric database we have 115 articles proving this statement: Turmeric Protects The Brain. We have also featured studies on turmeric's ability to protect and restore the brain:
How Turmeric Can Save the Aging Brain From Dementia and Premature Death
Turmeric Produces 'Remarkable' Recovery in Alzheimer's Patients
Considering the many chemical insults we face on a daily basis in the post-industrial world, turmeric may very well be the world's most important herb, with over 800 evidence-based health applications. Visit our Turmeric Research database -- the world's largest, open access turmeric resource of its kind -- to view the first hand published research on the topic.
This may not help for serious water filtration but I have heard from several different sources that letting tap water air out for 24 hrs can remove some of the fluoride and chlorine through evaporation. These people have plants that will die from those two chemicals so ymmv. Cover it with a paper towel etc to prevent bugs unless you prefer the WEF version.
