cuban home grown vaccines

Post by sushi_chef »

"2022 may
Cuba's vaccine policy for the new corona virus is unique in the world.
All vaccines are developed independently in the country, and five domestic vaccines have been developed so far through collaboration among insured medical institutions, academia, and the pharmaceutical industry.

Three of these vaccines, Abdalla, Soberana 2, and Soberana Plus, have already been approved for use, all of which have shown efficacy of over 90 percent, and are administered in combination according to each individual's situation.
In addition, Cuba has the world's highest number of physicians per 1,000 population at 8.4, compared to 2.4 in Japan, so vaccinations have proceeded one after another.

The reason for developing vaccines in their own country is that they have been under U.S. economic sanctions since the 1960s, so they have been unable to obtain pharmaceuticals and have been making their own.
When I visited a large general hospital in Havana the other day to talk with them, they told me that even now and in the past, importing pharmaceuticals from abroad was so difficult that there were often no needles for injections. I got a glimpse of how and why the entire nation is working on medical care in order to "survive.

Among other things, there is the applied technology of the hepatitis B vaccine, which has been developed and worked on safety for many years, and the new corona vaccine has been redesigned based on this technology.

In contrast to mRNA vaccines such as Modela and Pfizer Biontec, which were designed with storage and transport in mind despite the known risks, Cuban developed a protein vaccine with fewer risks.
Cuban doctors say they have far fewer side effects than vaccines from AstraZeneca and J&J, which use adenoviruses to introduce some of the RBD genes into the cells.
Protein vaccines generally take longer to develop and require multiple doses, but the recombinant protein vaccine (subunit) technology used in Cuba's vaccines has been used for decades to immunize children, and its safety is its most important advantage.

For this reason, Cuba was the first country in the world to start vaccinating infants as young as 2 years old.
Many people have already received the fourth dose, and no serious adverse reactions have been observed.
Particularly interesting is that the vaccine is administered intranasally rather than by injection.
This certainly makes sense since the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes the new coronavirus is a respiratory disease and is transmitted through the mucous membranes of the nasopharynx.
This one, too, is based on the hepatitis B virus protein, produced in particle form by recombinant genetic engineering of bacteria and yeast, and its properties strengthen the immune system.
They are using a platform of subunits based on specific proteins derived from Cuba's own biotechnological methods, which have been studied for many years.

The number of international "vaccine tours" for such low-risk vaccines is rapidly increasing.
States are also trying to woo foreigners with the advertising slogan, "Beaches, the Caribbean, mojitos, and vaccines."

However, Western countries do not recognize Cuban vaccines.
The reason behind this is that if vaccines made in Western countries were found to be inferior to those made in Cuba or to have a higher probability of serious adverse reactions, there would be worldwide panic, and the U.S. economic sanctions would lose their meaning.

Looking at the incidence rates by country, the superiority of the Cuban-made vaccine with respect to specific strains is certainly recognized, and the fact that there are almost no serious adverse reactions, not limited to racial groups.
In addition, countries that cannot afford the high cost of Pfizer-Bionic or Moderna vaccines have sought out Cuban vaccines, making it the largest export product.

In addition to these vaccines, we are also focusing our development efforts on drugs for the treatment of new coronas.
Of the 17 standard treatments currently in use in Cuba, 14 are Cuban-made, and some of these treatments are approved for use in the U.S. The high level of pharmaceutical technology is recognized.

In addition to the early response to the new coronavirus, which is expected to spread in the future, preparations have already begun for several viruses that are predicted to cause the next pandemic.

Incidentally, there have been almost no new cases of the new coronavirus in Cuba.

Cuba, the Land of Wonders.
This is a real parallel world.

When the COVID-19 pandemic broke out, Cuba decided to develop a domestic vaccine without waiting for other countries to develop theirs. This was based on the recognition that it would be difficult to obtain vaccines and treatments from the United States, which had imposed an economic blockade.

Currently, Cuba has two vaccines: Abdala, produced by the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB), and Soberana 02 (FIV), developed by the Finlay Institute of Vaccines (FIV). The development of new vaccines is also underway. New vaccines are also being developed.

The Cuban government authorized adult vaccination with Abdala in July and Soberana 02 in August, and a few months later, health care workers began administering both vaccines to children. As of November 18, 89% of Cubans (including 2-year-old children) have received at least one dose of Abdala or Soberana 02.
The company has also begun exporting the vaccine to Venezuela, Vietnam, Iran, and Nicaragua, and is partnering with the Pasteur Institute in Tehran to conduct a 24,000-patient trial with Iran, seeking WHO approval as a novel coronavirus vaccine.

[Performance of Abdallah and Soberana 2.0]
In July, the CIGB reported that in a phase III trial of more than 48,000 participants, three doses of Abdala showed more than 92% efficacy. It also stated that 24 million doses were administered to 8 million people. Detailed data are not yet available.
Two reports [1,2] on soberana 2.0 were submitted to medRxiv, a preprint server, in November. According to them, a phase III trial involving more than 14,000 adults aged 19 to 80 years achieved a safety and efficacy rate of 71.0% for the two-dose SOVERANA 02 (this performance is comparable to that of Johnson & Johnson (J&J) and Oxford AstraZeneca vaccines). Furthermore, they reported that the efficacy increased from 71.0% to 92.4% when the third dose of Soberana Plus was added to the two doses of Soberana vaccine.
"Efficacy and safety of SOBERANA 02, a COVID-19 conjugate vaccine in heterologous three-dose combination" Toledo-Romani ME [...]. García-Rivera D, Vérez-Bencomo V, SOBERANA Phase 3 team. medRxiv 2021-11-06. https://doi.org/10.1101/2021.10.31.21265703
"Safety and immunogenicit ..

[Abdala and SOBERANA 02/Plus are conjugate protein vaccines.
Abdala is a protein vaccine that uses yeast cells to produce and purify a portion of the receptor binding domain (RBD) of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein, based on technology from an existing vaccine (vaccine for hepatitis B) developed and used by Cuba for many years.
Soberana 02 applies the technology of an integrated (conjugate) vaccine to COVID-19 and is produced using Chinese hamster ovary-derived (CHO) cells as the host. It is a protein vaccine in which the tetanus toxin protein is conjugated to a region of the RBD that differs from that of Abdala. Soberana Plus is a protein vaccine consisting only of RBD

Protein vaccines have the advantage over mRNA vaccines such as Moderna and Pfizer Biontec in that they do not require cryogenic temperatures for storage and transport, and may have fewer side effects than AstraZeneca and J&J vaccines, which use adenoviruses to introduce some genes of RBDs into cells. On the other hand, the vaccine may have less side effects than those of AstraZeneca and J&J.
On the other hand, the process of synthesis in CHO and yeast cells is time-consuming. It has also been suggested that this type of vaccine may be less effective when administered in combination with other vaccines of this type.
FIV Director Vérez Bencomo stated that Soberana 02/Plus is safe because integrated vaccine technology has been used for many years without major problems and has also been used to develop pediatric vaccines, and he was positive about its use in children (already (Almost 2 million children have already been vaccinated). ..

It is important to know the reason why the vaccines made in Japan did not reach in time, while those made in Cuba did. Recently, Japan's ground sinking in academic research has been pointed out year after year, both at home and abroad.

If Cuba is giving their population placebos is every vaxx, especially covid, they will be far better off than the rest of the world. They will look like geniuses.

Every day I feel more and more blessed that my most recent vaxx of any type was in 1994. I was offered a tetanus shot at Walmart recently and I smiled nicely and told her I was up-to-date! 😇
