Gelatin based foods were really popular then also. Savory jello made with ground beef and peas sounds disgusting to me. Not sure why they thought that sounded like a palatable food.

My Grandma and uncles and aunts ate like normal during WWII, when they could get the normal stuff. They always had a garden, canned what they produced; and always raised a cow, chickens, and turkeys. My Grandpa would always shoot a deer and they'd freeze all the meat. When my Grandpa was gone during WWII, his older brothers brought my Grandma a deer every year.
