Prophets Clothed in Sackcloth

Post by Pazooka »

Meanwhile, not only are the two lampstands - the olives - before the God of the whole earth been increasingly clothed in sackcloth, as it were, but they are also increasingly clothed in ashes as volcano after volcano is erupting across the earth. Sackcloth and ashes cover the sun and moon, who prophecy to the holy city - those who should be the Lord’s people - about (literally) what time it is.

I thought I would throw this in there, since you brought up prophets in sackcloth. D. Michael Quinn noted in EM&MWV (1987 HBw/BJ) 'Early Mormonism & the Magic World View' on pp.177-178 linking the two witnesses noted of in LDS D&C 77:15 Q&A with one he found dated back to 1694 p. 184 stating ... "Question 58. What are those two witnesses, cloth'd in Sackcloth upon the earth? ... Shall they not be Moses and Elias [aka Eliijah] raised up to live again in a Body upon the Earth?"

This was found in a book titled 'Seder Olam' meaning 'The Order, Series, or Successions of All the Ages, Periods, and Times of the Whole World.' It was translated in 1694 by J. Clark. Original (date- ??) author or compiler was Franciscus M. van Helmont.

In Quinn's updated & revised & enlarged 1998 PB edition, it is found on p.220.

Sackcloth, as well as wineskins. are references used to speaking of the physical vehicle (body) that we incarnate into while in this realm of matter.
