Re: If it's solely the job of God to remove unfit leaders, why do we have a sustaining vote?

Sad and strange that no one who upholds this dichotomy (and I know there are several here who do) is prepared to explain their position when asked to do so.

Re: If it's solely the job of God to remove unfit leaders, why do we have a sustaining vote?

I'm a little sad to see the conversation veered off into a familiar debate about who is or is not a Prophet - which is tangential to my original question. It's not about whether RMN or any other is worthy, unworthy. There's a place for that discussion, sure, but it's not here. It's about what looks ...

Re: Joe Biden

They always feed both sides of these fake binaries. There's always a dominant narrative that gets the majority of coverage and is flagged as the "correct" viewpoint, but they always have a (fake) oppositional viewpoint they also feed, but less overtly. They use "leaks" and "...

Re: If it's solely the job of God to remove unfit leaders, why do we have a sustaining vote?

perhaps it is the way the OP is formed but it talks about removing unfit leaders via a sustaining vote. It doesn't seem as broad as a full discussion of the concepts of common consent. The later which seems to get twisted often in FF. So, keeping it to the OP, it is simplified question that makes s...

If it's solely the job of God to remove unfit leaders, why do we have a sustaining vote?

Well, that's my question. At ward, stake and higher levels we are all asked multiple times a year if we sustain our leaders or oppose them. It's a confidence vote essentially and one which at one time was supposed to represent a genuine democratic right to choose. Why was this process put in place i...

Re: There is a lot going on in cyberspace today

I don't think anyone is attacking anything. I think it's just the ongoing psyop of the Great Reset. it's about injecting certain ideas in to the collective consciousness. Getting us to accept and internalize the idea that things we once took for granted - being able to travel, having access to heat ...

Both points are wrong. It is a deterant studies show it. And while I cannot compare to Canada, murder is not worse in US that other countries. Statistics lie when collected for a reason. You sound like an anti-US person, I'd say move to the better country. I've been to many, few have any more peace...

Re: Can Christians support the death penalty?

I just found this video on YT. I think it brings some useful perspectives to the question. I was wondering how I would feel if some guy murdered my children. Pretty sure I'd want him dead, tortured even, and be prepared to do it myself... Wanting vengeance is understandable and natural. But is it o...

Re: The Humble Followers of Christ

In " The Screwtape Letters ", C.S. Lewis has a demon instructing another demon on how to ruin a man. I always remember this bit: "Your patient has become humble; have you drawn his attention to the fact? All virtues are less formidable to us once the man is aware that he has them, bu...

Re: Can Christians support the death penalty?

for murder (first degree), yes. Death is the only answer. Not only from a gospel point of view, but also as a deterrence against committing it. If there is no death penalty then there is little reason to fear the justice system. BTW I would add (first degree or intentional) rape and child molestati...

Re: Can Christians support the death penalty?

Thanks for all the responses - and an interesting discussion. I appreciate the question is very (maybe too) binary and I did think about blurring the issue with more qualifiers, but then I thought - no, it IS a binary. In the final analysis we either believe in the death penalty or we don't' I have ...

Re: Gay Marriage as the "Line In the Sand"

The suggestion two men or two women need to be married just in order to live under the same roof as platonic housemates & companions is (frankly) absurd. I mean since when right? What desperate rationalization is this? It might make people feel (temporarily) reassured to think marriage can be d...

Can Christians support the death penalty?

I've just been watching a documentary about the death penalty in Ohio. It featured one woman whose daughter was murdered by a low IQ guy, but who is campaigning against the death penalty in order to be able to move on & find forgiveness and closure. Seems to me this is a profoundly Christian res...

Re: 21 year old Sister missionary in Boise Idaho has a stroke

There's a study out there that shows an increase risk of heart issues and stroke from having the covid virus as well. Whether it is the virus or the vaccine, the potential is there, as it has the potential to cause inflammation. Such "studies" are meaningless if not intentionally misleadi...

Re: How to keep to the WoW & not get fat?

The WoW urges people to eat a lot of grain. This is a very common way for modern western humans to eat, but it's NOT a very natural or healthy diet for us. We are designed to eat animal fats and proteins, can't process gluten well and many polyunsaturated vegetable oils are chemically extracted and...

Re: I really hope they don't screw up the new Superman movie.

The moment they ditched Henry Cavill - the best Superman you could ask for - it became obvious they had no interest in making it good. The Gads don't want to make good movies. Good movies have soul in them (yes Robin, even good Super Hero movies! 🙂). They are in the business of destroying soul not c...

Re: Ten percent of BYU liberal arts students admit to identifying as LGBT

Isn't the Church consistent on supporting homosexual attraction and even marriages, as long as their is no sexual ACTIVITY man-on-man or woman-on-woman? That is possible, right? And they could still get a Temple Recommend? Ok, so picture the scene - You're a heterosexual married man and you meet a ...

Re: Christmas Tuneage

I used to live in the city of Bath, UK while I was a student at the uni there, and Christmas they always had a carol service at the cathedral which I used to attend. One year they sang this.

I LOVE British cathedral choirs. Such a unique and sweet sound.
