Re: Autism Spectrum Disorder

My cousin has autism. She is non-verbal and often has emotional outbursts. Just recently, within the last few years, she has learned to communicate through a gross motor, letter pointing system. Now she can even type. Lo and behold she is actually quite brilliant, understands the world around her v...

Re: Wear a cross?

Identity is a powerful thing. When we wear something...anything, really, but especially things of a religious nature...we are making a statement about identity. When people see me wearing a kippah or tzitzit, they automatically have an idea (for good, ill, or somewhere in between) of who I am and f...

Re: Autism Spectrum Disorder

That's very common. I'm in a room with a ticking clock and it doesn't bother me. But I know people it would. On the other hand, if there are people having multiple conversations around me I find I can't shut them all out. Very true. Many times I have to distinguish that I completely understand the ...

Re: Autism Spectrum Disorder

I don’t know if this counts, but I’m neurodivergently cursed with misophonia . So, there’s definitely an element of the social aspect that is incredibly difficult to endure and control at times—makes me feel like a psychopath. I feel more sorry for my family that has to deal with me abruptly excusi...

Re: Autism Spectrum Disorder

There is some prejudice about it here. However, some posters are autistic or have autistic family. Others are friends with them. Autistic people are actually one of the most picked on groups in society and have been discriminated against for decades, maybe centuries. Most of the discriminator may n...

Re: Autism Spectrum Disorder

I'm not autistic but my 31 year old daughter is, so I have a significant understanding of the challenges, both for the individual and for those around them. Additionally, my grandson in Canada has recently been diagnosed as autistic. He is also profoundly deaf. I hope I can make some useful contrib...

Re: Autism Spectrum Disorder

I would LOVE to see a list of neurodivergent talents people here have, that are not found in the non-neurodivergent population. I suppose it would depend largely on your definition of talent... My wife tells me Autism is my superpower. I do not often agree, but I love her and I know she has my well...

Re: Food Shortage Thread

Fred posted some specific information on shortages in my shortages thread. I think it would be good to have a thread where we: 1. Talk about shortages we notice 2. Inquire about the health of the supply chain across the US (and the world). I think we have people in at least 10 states and countries ...

Re: Autism Spectrum Disorder

Dr. Stephen Shore once said, "When you meet one person with Autism, you've met one person with Autism." There are certain characteristics that I would say bear common fruit in those on the spectrum, but there are so many differences that it is not always easy to define. This can and does l...

Autism Spectrum Disorder

Shalom! I know there has been at least one thread started (my time here has been short) on Autism, but I would like to try something different here if you are willing to humor me. This is a thread for those on the spectrum, or for those who have questions or observations for those on the spectrum. P...

Re: Emotional regulation?

As an adult with autism, I can tell you that emotional regulation is a critical issue. It is something that has plagued me my entire life. In adulthood and after decades of carefully selecting "tools" for my toolbox that help me to regulate on an emotional level, I can function with a hig...

Super confused, but I do sincerely appreciate you being willing to answer. What she was talking about is that during every semi-annual conference, the names of the general authorities are read, and we are asked if we sustain them, and signify by raising our hand. I guess some people do this alone i...

Still have no idea. It is interesting, however. I feel as though the Doctor is involved... https://e...

Re: Parsha - Jewish and LDS Dialogue

I have also chosen to quote the text of the Torah using the KJV, as I know (believe?) it is the preferred translation for LDS people. Yes, that is what LDS use. However, I will also be reading the New JPS Translation along with the JPS Commentaries. This is awesome! I anticipate a great discussion....

Re: Parsha - Jewish and LDS Dialogue

I have also chosen to quote the text of the Torah using the KJV, as I know (believe?) it is the preferred translation for LDS people. Interesting project. I might ask some questions about certain rabbinical interpretations or beliefs. You're correct, KJV is the most widely used version amongst us. ...
