Re: And you expect me to get excited about soccer?

We lived in New Zealand for 4 years while my dad taught at the Church College there, in the late 50s-early 60s. He was in athletics and so learned rugby. We moved back to the States and he tried teaching it to kids in junior high (6-8 grade). I think it just confused them. Growing up in the 60s &...

Re: Sacrament meeting talks today

We get an email every week telling us what the EQ lesson will be based on. It's always conference talks. Always. Ugh. Sacrament meeting is the same. Haven't been to church in months (except for a baby blessing in another ward).

Pretty sure Joseph was a Mason. I’ve read he was hustled up to master rank in a few days. I’ll try to recall where I read that.

Wow. Thou shalt have no graven images… We put the Christus (sp?) my parents gave back in the box a couple of months ago.

Lucky. I can’t recall a single recipe passed down from my grandparents. Come to think of it, I don’t think my mom passed any along.

Re: The Word of Wisdom

The WoW does say to eat meat sparingly… I’ve been dealing with this issue for many years, after my wife and I had our health turned around (for good, so far) by giving up a carb-based diet for a keto diet. Here are a few thoughts I’ve had: 1. The wheat we eat today is not the wheat eaten during Jos...

Re: What does “Families are forever” even mean?

We see the world through the lens of our personal experiences, which is something that must be unlearned. For instance, my wife’s 1st husband grew up in a family commonly called the “black sheep” of his LDS extended family. His dad drank, smoked, fooled around, etc., and hit on my wife several times...

They have always asked me for my temple recommend when I bought garments. If I didn't have it with me, their computer could tell them if my temple recommend was still valid. No current temple recommend, no garments. At least in Utah. And they really frown on you making your own. I’ve bought garment...

Re: Heat Sources

I'm concerned about this, too. We have a gas fireplace. If the gas was on but the power off, we could use it, powering the blower with a battery that can charge with solar power. It would only heat the family room, and maybe the kitchen, but that's it. I'd like to say that S Utah County doesn't real...

So sad. My family lived in Temple View, near the Church College, when the temple was built. My dad was ordained Bishop by Elder Spencer Kimball there in the late-1950s. Now this…

Took a 45-minute walk around my neighborhood today and was surprised at the 2-1 ratio of McCommie vs. Lee signs in yards. Likely the same houses who had rainbow flags in their yards in June, including the bishop.

The correct answer for me is "sometimes." Depends on what's ironed, or looks decent. Last time we sent to church (baby blessing) it was white. Because that's what looked OK hanging in the closet.

Re: Adding to our supplies

We are learning to be more diligent about rotating meat in the freezer. Too many cuts became freezer burnt after sitting in the back for extended time. Mark them and rotate! Old meat really does have a nasty taste! Agreed. After losing a fair amount of meat to freezer burn, we bought a food sealer....

Re: Halloween - Innocent fun?

Moving from California to Utah, 10 years now, we continue to be amazed at how much Utahns love Halloween. Likely because of the sugar because Utahns love sugar more than Halloween. I remember Robert Young saying Utahns love sugar so much because the candida in their bodies eat it and produce alcohol...

Re: Adding to our supplies

Our 3 smallish freezers are full, mostly meats, so I’ve been adding canned meats to our supply. Wheat buckets are back in our Costco, but now at .77/lb. When we bought the. Early in the year it was .44/lb. The local Maceys has 25 lb bags for .44/lb, though. Won’t be that when they restock.
