Re: Early Church Fathers believed in the doctrine of becoming Gods.

NO, I don't believe that is accurate. If you are atheist, not agnostic, pure atheist, then you don't believe in anything but this earth as science that has not shown another life. Life is over, there is no after life. I have never heard of an atheist believing in an afterlife. You would need to at ...

Re: Early Church Fathers believed in the doctrine of becoming Gods.

Thinking about the atheist, they don't believe there is an afterlife do they? Don't they believe that once we die that is the end? If this be the case, then what would give them hope of becoming a god. Do they have examples of other men or women in this life that have achieved such a goal? If a man...

Re: Early Church Fathers believed in the doctrine of becoming Gods.

This is what I was getting at. At this time, all were atheists, at least from a certain point of view. The initial intelligence or I would say, the initial group of intelligences who learned together, learned line upon line. If we believe that though, how do we reconcile God saying he was always Go...

Re: Early Church Fathers believed in the doctrine of becoming Gods.

What god? The one of the living or the one of the dead? Mark 12:27. Why do we be like the Sadducees and greatly err so much? I’ll add psalms 82: 1 God standeth in the congregation of the mighty; he judgeth among the gods. How is that answering the question? Did God the Father start as we did? Josep...

Re: Lectures on Faith versus Section 130

Is the Book of Mromon true, or not? If the Book of Mormon is untrue, then why put any value on anything else Joseph might have said? If the Book of Mormon is true, then anything Joseph taught which is contrary to it can be discarded. It's really, really simple to me. Do you disagree with my reasoni...

Re: Early Church Fathers believed in the doctrine of becoming Gods.

For example, if, as I suppose, man first had to acquire the knowledge and goodness to be a God in the first place, then at first, no overall law was ruling the universe and sin may not have existed. This is what I was getting at. At this time, all were atheists, at least from a certain point of vie...

Re: Yahweh is NOT Jesus?

We have a very different understanding of RESTORATION verse trying everything out. Not a different understanding. I'm just observing what demonstrably happened. Joseph's teachings changed. It's written on the record for anyone to see. And the historical records also show the different things being ...

Re: “Your constant cynicism, accusatory tone, and subtle insinuations are tiresome…”

I chalk it up to textbook cognitive dissonance. When a worldview is challenged with incontrovertible evidence, our default setting as fallible humans is not to immediately say 'oh I see I was wrong, I guess I'll change my entire structure of how I see the world'. It's to put up immediate walls and d...

Re: How is it possible for the Q15 to receive a Temple Recommend?

The only reason why I think the Church is not more forceful on this stance like it was before is because it still has to run in this telestial world, and having the Church cancelled worldwide would be most inconvenient. It's a real shame that God is so weak that he doesn't have any power to resist ...

Re: Lectures on Faith versus Section 130

Yet I just posted Joseph's own word on the subject. Not a passing comment on another discussion in either LoF or BoM, but a lecture, in Joseph's own words on this very subject. Naaa, you must have other reasons to disbelieve current teachings, else Joseph's own words after writing BoM and D&C a...

Re: Lectures on Faith versus Section 130

I agree that Jesus is both Father and Son as Abinadi explained in the Book of Mormon and as is mentioned repeatedly in scripture; however, Jesus Christ's Father is also a Father. And it was to His Father that he cried out to while hanging on the cross and to whom Jesus prayed to when he knelt down ...

Re: Lectures on Faith versus Section 130

Have you seen the debunk on that quote yet? Saw it in a recent thread somewhere, with links. But I'm fine if Joseph said it, doesn't matter to me. Book of Mormon teaching trumps Joseph' quotes any day of the week. He says it on many places, I picked the one on the forum. Add KFD. When you say the B...

Re: Lectures on Faith versus Section 130

So, we are hanging on a word or two from LoF and don't even really know that the original words are and/or who wrote them. According to the biggest pusher of them, it is likely Rigdon wrote most of them and more so that they are not in actual text as we don't have the actual texts but reconstructio...

Re: Psychologist believes 8 year olds are too young to make trans decisions AND decisions RE: their eternal salvation

I tend to agree that 8 is too young to get baptized. But then there’s this: 25 And again, inasmuch as parents have children in Zion, or in any of her stakes which are organized, that teach them not to understand the doctrine of repentance, faith in Christ the Son of the living God, and of baptism a...

Re: Have you ever met someone that you somehow knew before?

Some possibilities to explain this would include the concept of multiple mortal probations, or simply having known someone quite well in the pre-existence, or cellular memory passed down to us in our DNA from our ancestors. Or it could just be deja-vu. :)

If they’ve already had bottom surgery, how are they supposed to repent? Just be a sort of eunuch? I understand the need for repentance. But a person can’t undo a sex change surgery. At least not to my knowledge. I find myself disagreeing with your premise here. If a soldier goes to war and gets his...

STPJS, 256: God said, 'Thou shalt not kill;' at another time He said, 'Thou shalt utterly destroy.' I think too many people are taking everything in the lectures absolutely literally Wait, we can't take a collection of doctrinal tenets literally? I mean, I thought that was the point of having doctrinal tenets. These aren't stories, these are declarations of doctrine. I don't know how we can extra...

Re: Early Church Fathers believed in the doctrine of becoming Gods.

I would suggest reading the King Follet Discourse (amalgamated) to see what Joseph taught in his last general conference sermon. It is really the most definitive answer to these questions. See where he says (and in D&C that the first god was a spirit like the other intelligences but much more s...
