Re: Testimonies of women and trauma bonding

There is an old and apropos saying that is especially applicable to this subject: “Why is it that it is the people who know the least who have the most to say?” And, obviously the saying doesn’t apply to Luke, because he probably knows more about the background and doctrine of The Principle than any...

Re: Heavenly Mother

Although it is not scripture, or really anything akin to it, in the third verse of her classic LDS Hymn, Oh My Father, I think Eliza R. Snow made the most profound statement on this subject: In the heav'ns are parents single? No, the thought makes reason stare! Truth is reason; truth eternal Tells m...

Re: kissing

None of us are in charge of our spouse’s spirituality. I hate to say it, but most people so don't get it. I had to have heart problems before I learned that in addition to plumbing (which I basically understood), hearts also have an electrical system, and when there are shorts and problems in the e...

Re: kissing

Here’s the deal: no matter how much of a high horse some people like to try to ride, we are all sinners, and without repentance, forgiveness and the atonement, not a single one of us have anything to brag about. As Christ said to those who were stoning the adulterous woman (same position as the husb...

Re: kissing

To all my brothers, what is it that can bring a husband to do that? is it because he is 60 and she 39 and she makes him feel young? I'm trying to find answers so I can do all I can to fix this. If you just want to be stroked and validated, without really wanting to understand what might be going on...

Re: kissing

I’m sorry this happened to you as well, but I do not hold the opinion of most of the commenters here. Has your husband been unfaithful? Yes. Has he broken your heart? Absolutely! Is he a total $%*! for doing this? You bet. Has he committed adultery? Technically, no. a·dul·ter·y voluntary sexual int...

Re: Women and Plural Marriage -- the Great Re-Awakening?

I’ve been reading Frank’s The Way of the Superior Man book between conference sessions. Such a stark contrast. David Deida talks about self-evident truths and realities that our church leaders act scared to death of and never address. It is interesting that his book is an international best seller, ...

Re: Women and Plural Marriage -- the Great Re-Awakening?

The other big surprise with this thread is that after being to active in coming full circle, and pretty much completely exhausting the subject from a practical (versus doctrinal) perspective, it would come to such an abrupt halt. I’m not sure that I’ve ever been aware of a thread where people starte...

Re: Women and Plural Marriage -- the Great Re-Awakening?

I just want to also say that I agree with this line of thinking — Making Love (as opposed to just having sex) — should be considered a marital sacrament, because it is a marital sacrament — perhaps the most important marital sacrament. Real glue, and plenty of it, makes couples glow.

Re: Women and Plural Marriage -- the Great Re-Awakening?

There are things about this thread and this discussion that are really interesting, and then there are some things that are genuinely surprising. From my perspective, one of the most surprising things about the thread is the fact that after circling around full circle two or three times, and taking ...

Re: Women and Plural Marriage -- the Great Re-Awakening?

Since we’re on a roll here, I’m going to ask a couple more probing questions, especially about this idea that masturbation is always a sin, and God would never condone it. Is it a sin to masturbate for the purpose of utilizing artificial insemination to conceive a child? Is it a sin for a woman to m...

Re: Women and Plural Marriage -- the Great Re-Awakening?

Btw, I see it as a healthy sign this thread has evolved into the heart of the matter of why polygamy is discussed ad nauseam: frustrated sex. I think this is a useful observation for several reasons. First of all it does acknowledge and identify the real issue; it explains why so many men are obses...

Re: Women and Plural Marriage -- the Great Re-Awakening?

What are some of the views you're getting from the woman side of things? I’m seeing quite a bit of variety, but birds of a feather flock together. As a general rule, women seem to struggle to understand the normal, natural male sexual drive as much as men struggle to understand women. Consequently,...

Re: Women and Plural Marriage -- the Great Re-Awakening?

This continues to be a very interesting discussion. And just like married couples, men and women here seem to just keep talking past each other, without really listening, and without really understanding, and just seeking validation of their own positions. I know that happens to me. It’s like many m...

Re: Women and Plural Marriage -- the Great Re-Awakening?

It is basically just monogamy with a verbal baggage clause “Baggage clause”? Look Hyloglyph, thanks, but you’re going to have to do a little better job of explaining it than that, and I know you can. If we’re going to have to “negotiate legal hurdles, church hurdles, and doctrinal hurdles,” we bett...

Re: Women and Plural Marriage -- the Great Re-Awakening?

Do you think the city of Zion was held together by sex or because the people were of one heart and one mind? I can absolutely guarantee that without any sex there would have never been "one heart and one mind." Guaranteed. I think there is at least one other option but I have to figure ou...

Re: Women and Plural Marriage -- the Great Re-Awakening?

So, instead of having sex, you think the people in the City of Enoch were just "being righteous" instead. Okay. Fair enough. And, in response to both Mamabear’s question and Atticus’ comment, regardless of what “the Church says,” apparently Christ has already provided the answer: For the s...

Re: Women and Plural Marriage -- the Great Re-Awakening?

Okay, so much for the idea of self-evident truths. I guess we’re just going to have to let it play out for a while longer so things — truth — can become more self-evident. Has “righteousness” ever been the glue that held society together? Sure, the city of Enoch was so righteous that it was taken up...

Re: Women and Plural Marriage -- the Great Re-Awakening?

And Mamabear, thanks. Fair enough. This is just a discussion. And you have been brave enough to chime in and make some pretty pointed comments, so I thought you wanted to be part of the discussion. But instead, apparently you just want people to see your comments, but ignore them, and pretend they a...

Re: Women and Plural Marriage -- the Great Re-Awakening?

Jonesy, thanks for chiming in, but I’m just going to say it: Mormon self-righteousness is the glue that holds marriages, families and society together? Is that why Mormons now have about the same birth rates and divorce rates as the rest of the world, but higher pornography use and anti-depressant u...

Re: Women and Plural Marriage -- the Great Re-Awakening?

So, perhaps that is the answer, and the solution to the dilemma and challenges of the male sex drive — and perhaps what God expects? — if/when a man’s wife is and/or becomes frigid, as I have suggested before, at that point a man should have himself castrated for everyone’s sake, and from that point...
